As I continued with the crab scenario I had many different goals. One
was I was trying to make it bounce of the side instead of just stopping.
Another on was instead of making the crab walk in a straight line I was going
to try to make the crab walk in a crooked line making to more realistic to an
actual crab. I did the first one by typing if ( atWorldEdge() turn(17);. This
means when the crab hits the side of the world it will turn around and keep
moving instead of just stopping.
To make the random movements I had to type if (
Greenfoot.getRandomNumber(100)>10).
The random number can be anything as long as its true I think (this part
was a bit confusing). I experimented with different numbers and they usually
work but the smaller the number is, the smaller turn the crab makes. So after
typing that my crab was able to move like an actual crab. My next goal is
trying to get the crab eat a worm. The picture shows how it all looked when it
was written in Greenfoot.

The Crab Scenario
I have just started the crab scenario on Greenfoot. This is scenario is unlike any other scenarios that I've done on Greenfoot. In the crab scenario you hove to edit and write in code to make commands for the crab. The other scenarios did that for you. Code is a bit challenging, you have to make it a perfect or else it can screw everything up. So starting the scenario I just wanted to get the crab to move. What I had to, was open the crab's editor and write an act for it. You can see what I wrote in the picture. Just writing this made the crab able to rotate.

Asteroids
This time on Greenfoot I used a new scenario called Asteroid 1. Instead of making wombats eat leaves I can now insert asteroids and rockets into a world and have my own asteroids game. I also found a way to cheat. You can put several rockets into the world and change the reloading time to 1 second if you do that you're unstoppable.

Greenfoot
I just started using the an app called Greenfoot. So far in Greenfoot I've learned to program wombats to move around a grid and eat leaves.

When Did you Come to AIS?
I came to AIS about a year ago.
Where were you in school before AIS? For how long?
Was the school a one-to-one laptop school? I was in Cairo, Egypt before and I was there for two and a half years. Cairo did have a one to one computer program.
What computer/technology courses have you taken previously?
Previously I've taken tech, yearbook and keyboarding.
How much time do you spend on the computer at home on a typical school day? What are the three most common applications that you use. I spend about four hours at home. The most common apps I use is Word, Itunes and Skype.
What is your typing speed. Use http://www.typingtest.com/ to find out. Do a few tests to warm up.
I got 43 words per minute.
Do you need to look at the keyboard when you type? How many fingers do you use? Do you make a lot of mistakes? Are you satisfied with your keyboarding performance?
I do look at the keyboard occasionally and I use all my a fingers and make mistakes often. Overall I am happy with my keyboarding performance
How would you rate yourself as an information technology user. Which of the following best describe you. What would you add to give a more complete picture of your IT usage?
I tend to lack confidence with IT. My experience is a bit limited and I feel that I have quite a lot to learn
Do you have any prior experience in computer science for example programming languages (Basic, Logo, Java, Scheme, C++), robotics etc. DO you think that you might be interested in taking AP computer Science?
I have some experience in robotics but very little but I am interested in computer science.
Do you have any prior experience using publishing applications such as In-Design. Are you enrolled in journalism or yearbook.
I do have experience in In-Design from yearbook.
I don't know what art classes I'm taking yet and I don't think I have any experience with those apps.
What other computer experience do you have that has not been explained above.
I'm not sure really.
How do you normally learn new technologies? How did you learn to learn in this way? Do you feel that you are an effective independent learner?
I usually just mess around with it.
Take a look at the Course Connections page. What would you like to learn in this course?
I would like to learn what code really is and how it works.
Do you think that you understand how your performance on the course will be assessed? See assessment guidelines. Do you have any questions about this?
Yes.
Are there any other questions that you would like to ask at this stage?
No.

Pretty much just the basics.

I usually just mess around with it.
You will be required to keep a learning log during this course. How would you describe yourself in these kinds of tasks.
I welcome the opportunity to write and reflect about what I am doing. I see this as an integral part of my learning.Take a look at the Course Connections page. What would you like to learn in this course?
